Mark Neuman


Mark Neuman, CPA, co-founded Summit 1031 Exchange with Brian Stevens in 1991. Mark has over 2 decades of experience as a CPA, and has been structuring exchanges for over 16 years.

As a certified continuing education instructor in a number of states, Mark frequently speaks about exchange issues before Realtor®, Attorney, and CPA groups throughout the country. He has also been a past guest speaker on exchange issues for the Federation of Exchange Accommodators’ (FEA) national and regional meetings, and was one of the first FEA members to receive the Certified Exchange Specialist designation in 2003.

Mark received his first Bachelors of Science degree in Radio Television News from Eastern Washington University. His second degree in Accounting came from Central Washington University. After gaining experience at Moss Adams CPA firm, Mark formed Stevens and Neuman, a CPA practice in Bend, Oregon with Brian Stevens in 1989.

In 1991, as a result of new IRS regulations, Mark and Brian co-founded Summit 1031 Exchange (formerly Summit Accommodators) to create one of the first CPA backed tax-deferred exchange companies in the country. Under their leadership, Summit became one of the first 1031 exchange companies in the new industry to receive errors and omissions and bonding insurance. After growing Stevens and Neuman to 1400 clients, they sold the accounting practice in 2002 to focus on the rapid growth of Summit. Summit now has offices in Oregon, Utah, Texas, Washington, Wyoming, Nevada and Montana and has handled over 10,000 exchange closings worth over 1 billion dollars.

An entrepreneur with diverse interests, Mark is currently involved in many successful ventures including a number of real estate investments and manufacturing companies. His current and past endeavors range across industries including financial services, wood products, real estate development, automotive parts, sports equipment, and office products.

Mark is an active supporter of local business communities. He serves as Chairman of the Board for Opportunity Knocks, a volunteer-based organization supporting business development throughout Central Oregon. He also serves as a facilitator for one of Opportunity Knock’s business groups.

Mark is an outdoor sports enthusiast and frequently supports local athletic events. He is an active skier, bicyclist and runner. Mark resides in Bend, Oregon with his wife and five children.
