Lane Lyons is a principal in and serves as the Director of Legal and Tax Policy for all Summit offices. He is a member of the Oregon State Bar (Taxation, Estate Planning, and Real Estate sections), and holds a Master of Laws (L.L.M) degree in taxation.
Prior to joining Summit's team in 2005, in private practice, Lane primarily represented real estate investors, developers, contractors, and business owners, specializing in tax planning for real estate and business transactions. Lane has extensive experience in tax planning for real estate development, structuring joint ventures and partnerships, and business transaction planning with an emphasis on planning business sales, acquisitions, and mergers, finance, private securities placements, and general corporate governance. Lane’s practice also included representing taxpayers before the IRS and Oregon Department of Revenue in audits and offers in compromise proceedings.
Lane is an experienced public speaker, and has lectured on income taxation of real estate transactions and exchanges, employment law and tax qualified retirement benefits, and has authored articles on topics including real estate law, estate planning, and international taxation issues. In addition to his professional activities, Lane is actively involved in his local community serving as a Director of various non-profit organizations, including serving as the President of the Education Foundation for the Bend-LaPine Public Schools.
A native Oregonian, Lane received his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management from the University of Oregon. He subsequently obtained his Juris Doctorate (J.D.) from Willamette University College of Law and a Master of Laws (L.L. M.) degree in taxation from the University of Washington.
In his free time, Lane is a musician, avid off-road motorcyclist, and also enjoys waterskiing, camping, hunting, and golf with his wife, Jackie, and their two daughters Paige and Riley.
